If you press return while the Notational Velocity search field is empty, it creates a new note called ‘Untitled Note’. Doesn’t feel quite right.

Discrepancy
(I warn that this piece somewhat resembles a rant.) BT tacks on bits-and-pieces onto their phone and internet connection packages to make it harder to find the things you care about (the phone and internet connection). They say: We’ve teamed up with leading online security company McAfee to offer BT NetProtect Plus. My belief is that you don’t need this junk on your Mac. ...

The iPod Swipe Trick →
by Devir Kahan An alternative to using the standard iOS back button in the iPhone’s iPod app (Music on the iPod Touch). You can actually just swipe anywhere on the album art from left to right to push the album art off the screen and slide back to the list view. I’ve known about this for a long time. I’m fascinated by the inclusion of this gesture; it is very unlike the standard...

Alfred and Launchbar
Regarding Alfred 0.9, Shawn Blanc wrote: I’m getting ahead of myself here, but if I had to sum up what I see as the main difference between Alfred and LaunchBar it’s that Alfred appeals to a broader range of nerds, and LaunchBar appeals to a smaller range of persnickety power users. I would say the main difference is that Alfred is built up from a simple foundation, while LaunchBar is build...

Top Grossest Apps →
by Neven Mrgan You should read Neven’s piece. That the business model he discusses works (and works very well) makes me sad about people. Just sad.

Quitting all applications →
from Alfred Hat Tips So if you need to quickly reboot or shut off your Mac, it’s now easy to quit all of your running apps right from within Alfred. Um, the system will quit all applications prior to a Restart or Shut Down, so why would you do that yourself? There are valid reasons for wanting to quit everything, but I don’t think that’s one. An alternative, simple, non-fancy way to do this...

Resident Evil 4 →
by Jennifer at ‘My Cake ain’t no lie’ No idea how I found it, but I really enjoyed reading this reflection on one of my favourite modern games. Jennifer does a great job explaining how the game is great. I call Resident Evil 4 a modern game because I played it on Wii, which is current. (It’s competing with Super Mario Galaxy for the title of favourite.) I feel the game has added value on Wii...

The Face of Churchill
First, we have the banner for the 50th Anniversary of Churchill College. Winston Churchill may be in one additional photo. Good job iPhoto.

“I’m glad all of my computers are working, because trying to decide what to get...”
– Marco Arment (You probably need to read the whole piece to find this conclusion as funny as I did.)

I was surprised when I accidentally held command while trying to delete a page in Preview. The document disappeared, and I heard the Trash sound — while I was using it. Preview, that’s not your role. Leave the Finder alone.

Apple — iMac →
Have a play with the new iMac page on your iOS device, or probably in any competent touch screen web browser. Image components animate independently as you swipe left and right. It’s a bit small on my iPhone 4 — looks designed for iPad.

Camera Plus
History Back in the day, when I used the iPhone 3G, I tried a few camera applications from the App Store. There were two major problems. Firstly, no software application can make good photos from a poor quality camera. Even if an app helps me take the best photos possible — such as by providing a stabiliser — the results are still lacking. Secondly, prior to iOS 4, third party applications...
