I’ve been thinking about the iPad’s calendar…
I’ve been thinking about the iPad’s calendar and the idea of making the near future more important than the far future. In week view make the column for today wider and use this to show a little more information? I would like continuous scrolling as well. This is the opposite of reading, where I find pagination works better. With this design, whenever I open the calendar today is on the far...

Marco Arment: Logarithmic calendar view →
The ideal view would contain today’s events in great detail, then events from the next few days in less detail, then an overview of events in the next 3-5 weeks. This would be useful. I am not quite sure what Marco means by less detail. Only the event names in a list? I only care about major events happening next week. I do not need a list of every single upcoming lecture. I think identifying...

Tumblr Theme
I am still working on the appearance of these pages and leaning how about making Tumblr Themes. The current theme is a good starting point, but I want to work out what all the bits in the source do and take out everything not in use.

History of my use of Web Browsers
Exciting stuff! In the dark ages I used Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP. Then about four years ago, I tried Opera 9 and found it much better than Internet Explorer. Two years later, one of the first things I did on my shiny new MacBook Pro was download Opera. Recently, I have spent six weeks using Safari and two weeks so far with Camino. Why am I posting this? This is some background...

Apple a force to be reckoned with in portable... →
the average price for a game on the App Store is about $3, while games for Nintendo’s platforms run an average of $20. If consumer expectations for game pricing are changed significantly by the influence of the App Store, as some analysts expect, revenue for Nintendo games could drop like a brick. I hope the iPhone doesn’t mess with the real gaming. I don’t consider the...

– New feature in Reeder 2 Terrific! This will fix ‘the Daring Fireball problem’, which is when there is an item on the linked list with lots of additional commentary or other links that I want to send to Instapaper. This is missed out with the current ‘send to Instapaper’ in NetNewsWire and Reeder...

– Apple’s Jobs confirms iPhone ‘kill switch’ — Telegraph From August 2008, soon after the launch of the App Store. To me, this is so obvious now. I wonder if it wasn’t obvious back in 2008? (Regarding the ‘kill switch’: I’m not aware that it has ever been used.)

Use of the word ‘computing’
I am not happy with my use of the word ‘computing’ in the previous post, but I am not sure what would be better. It is irrelevant that the device performs computation. Maybe I could say: ‘I love being able to receive and send out information while mobile.’ This isn’t very catchy…

Bugfix update 2.2.1 now in App Store →
Instapaper Pro 2.2.1 is now in the App Store. This is a bugfix release that fixes crashes related to dictionary lookups, the in-app browser, missing articles, rotation locking in the folder view, and sending to Tweetie. Wonderful. Read the news, downloaded the update and am now posting from it. All done on the walk to lectures. This is mobile computing and I love it. (via Instapaper)

Slide to Unlock
What is the point of the ‘slide to unlock’ screen on the iPad? The iPad sits on the table when not in use. The power button isn’t going to get pressed by accident. (I have never used an iPad — I am just guessing.) Simplification: Just press the power button to turn the display off and press again to turn it back on. Pass code locking complicates this matter. I say that it should be...

Instapaper 2.2
Marco Arment recently released Instapaper 2.2 for iPhone and iPod touch. When you use an application as much as I use Instapaper, small changes can make a big difference. Here are assorted thoughts on the update. Pagination Since I have only been using this for a couple of days, it is hard to say if I prefer reading page by page or with scrolling. On the iPhone, the individual ‘pages’ are...
